Chesham Park Community College 27 February 2008 Conference

About fifty 6th formers who took part in the conference, as well as students from other years who dropped in to the Media Resource Centre before and after the conference. Eleanor Greenhalgh from People & Planet gave a thought-provoking presentation and showed a film about the disaster huge-scale cotton production has brought upon the people and land of Uzbekistan and surrounding countries. Eleanor finished by leading a brain-storming session with the students about what they might do to encourage Fairtade as individuals and as a school.

Pauline Wilkinson MBE, Chairman Bucks County Council spoke of her pride in Chesham being the first town in Bucks to become a Fairtrade town. Gill Walker, manager of the Chesham Oxfam shop spoke about the work of Oxfam. David & Ruth Haddock provided refreshments and sold Traidcraft goods. Colin Cartwright introduced the work of the Chesham Fairtrade Steering Group & ended by thanking the staff, school and students for their co-operation and enthusiasm.
