Fairtrade Events in 2006/07
A number of events with a Fairtrade theme were arranged by the Chesham Steering Group in 2006: the Town Pancake Race; the Easter Egg Hunt, which involved a number of shops and businesses in the town; a wine-tasting evening; a fashion show; a cake competition and cafe at the Town Hall. Also, there were Fairtrade stalls at the Chesham Carnival and the Victorian Evening.
One particular highlight of the Fairtrade Fortnight in March 2006, was the visit to Chesham of Maria Sergeant, a Fairtrade banana grower from St Vincent in the West Indies. It was both inspiring and humbling to hear first-hand, the difference that changing to Fairtrade production has made to Maria, her community and to the whole island of St Vincent.
