Chesham Commuter Giveaway

Fairtrade Fortnight 2017 has got off to a cracking start in Chesham. This year, we are asking people to put Fairtrade in your break between the 27th February to 12th March. And 200 commuters did just that with the help of our free goody bags. Three stalwart bananas braved the cold to hand out Fairtrade treats outside Chesham Station from 7am on the 28th February.

We were thrilled with the kind response from travellers who probably weren't expecting to be accosted by big bananas so early in the morning! Our bags of Fairtrade tea, coffee, nuts, chocolate, bananas and cola were snapped up in no time.

We'd like to thank Chocolate and Love, Sainsbury's, Liberation Nuts, Divine Chocolate and Karma Cola for their generous donations of Fairtrade products that made this possible.

Why are we asking people to put Fairtrade in their break, be it tea, coffee, chocolate, fruit or biscuits? It's because millions of farmers who produce the treats we enjoy during our breaks are struggling to make a living. Take Kenya's coffee and tea-producing regions; 1 in 3 people there live in poverty. In Malawi, tea pickers earn less than £1.46 a day - this isn't enough to provide for decent food, education or healthcare for their families. The guaranteed minimum price that Fairtrade offers, along with the Fairtrade bonus can make all the difference to impoverished farmers and farm workers, but not enough people are buying Fairtrade. We want everyone to get behind farmers and their families this Fortnight.
For this reason, we were delighted to be invited on to the Nick Coffer show on BBC 3 Counties Radio to tell even more people about Fairtrade. The show is available to listen to for the next month here.

Next stop is our Big Fairtrade Breakfast on the 11th March. Come and join us!
